With just one month to go, Prince George is on the brink of hosting the most anticipated events of the winter sports calendar: the 2024 Para Biathlon World Championships and the Para Nordic World Cup Finals. The Local Organizing Committee is thrilled to announce the countries that have confirmed their participation, promising a lineup of world-class athletes competing in these prestigious competitions.

The Para Biathlon World Championships will see athletes from Austria, Brazil, Canada, the People’s Republic of China, France, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea, Poland, Ukraine, and the United States. This diverse roster of countries underscores the global appeal of the event and the high level of competition the athletes will bring to the snowy tracks of Prince George.

Similarly, the Para Nordic World Cup Finals will feature a competitive field from Austria, Brazil, Canada, the People’s Republic of China, Finland, Great Britain, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, and Ukraine, United States of America. Each team will bring its unique strengths to the competition, showcasing the best of Para Nordic skiing on an international stage.

These world-class competitions, taking place from March 5-11 for the Para Biathlon World Championships and March 12-17 for the Para Nordic World Cup Finals, will feature athletes across three categories, each defined by the nature of their injury/disability. The Sitting class includes remarkable skiers with lower limb impairments, utilizing sit-skis and short poles for the competition. Athletes in the Vision Impaired class navigate the course with the aid of a guide, a testament to the extraordinary trust and coordination between skiers and their guides. The Standing class comprises athletes with upper or lower limb impairments, many of whom compete with prosthetics, showcasing incredible feats of balance and agility.

Countries like the UKR, USA, GER, and NOR are sending some of their finest athletes, known for their dominating presence in the sport. Meanwhile, Canada is a strong contender for medals in the Men’s and Women’s standing class, highlighting the nation’s prowess in developing top-tier talent. Notably, Brazil’s athletes, fresh from their first-ever gold victory by a sitting skier at last week’s World Cup events in Italy, are also among the ones to watch.

The Local Organizing Committee extends a warm invitation to the public to come and witness these incredible athletes in action. All of the competitions take place at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club and are free to the public. This is a unique opportunity to see the world’s best Para biathletes and Para Nordic skiers compete, demonstrating not only their remarkable athletic abilities but also the powerful spirit of resilience and determination that defines Para sports.

Kevin Pettersen, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee, encapsulates the sentiment of the upcoming championships: “Bringing this level of competition to Prince George is a profound honour and an exciting challenge. These championships transcend sport—they are a powerful display of what can be achieved with resilience and unity. We invite everyone to join us, cheer on these incredible athletes, and be part of an event that promises to be a highlight in the history of Para sports.”
